Esta obra fue escrita en 1566 por el franciscano Diego de Landa. Durante mucho tiempo fue la primera y única fuente de información sobre los mayas. Su autor llegó a Yucatán en 1549, a la edad de 25 años, y murió en Mérida en 1579.
